Gnarls Barkley Video Fails Epileptic Test

Having a child with epilepsy I was a little annoyed at the response given by Gnarls Barkley in regards to his new video “Run” that failed the Harding Test, guidelines established to prevent TV images from triggering epileptic seizures.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but we’re having issues. I think (the video) is cool. It works for me. But I’m not necessarily that easily seasick, We can’t predict how people are going to interpret it.” he told Billboard.com

I wish I could educate them more on epilepsy and they could see what happens to a child/adult when they endure a seizure. Being seasick or a little dizzy “from a video” is not the same as having a seizure, when your seasick you can still think and react, for the most part, clearly. During most seizures the body loses it’s ability to function and it’s extremely common for a person having a seizure to lose conciousness. Having a seizure is not an epileptics way of interpreting a video.

I feel videos, concerts, movies and television should have to let an epileptic know at the beginning, like they do if a movie has stong content or is R rated, that it contains images that could trigger a seizure. I never in a million years thought epilepsy would impact my life and it has. If your not familiar with epilepsy take a moment to read a little about it after all knowledge is power. http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org
